WHO lists Al Buraimi Healthy City in sustainable cities
The Office of Wali of Al Buraimi and the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Monday celebrated the recognition of Al Buraimi Healthy City in the list of sustainable healthy cities in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The celebration took place in Al Buraimi under the auspices of Dr
Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health. The event was attended by Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidy, Governor of Al Buraimi, along with Dr Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, several walis and members of Majlis Ash’shura, and senior officials of the ministry.

Buraimi, pointed out that the phases of the official signing of Al Buraimi Healthy City since 2020 went through many stations to achieve the national targets and implement the concept of ‘Health for All.’
In this regard, Dr Majid bin Rashid al Maqbali, Directorgeneral of Health Services in Al Buraimi Governorate, stressed that Al Buraimi has successfully implemented 80 criteria in line with international standards. As a result, Al Buraimi has implemented community initiatives in various fields over four years. These initiatives have led to WHO recognition, including health-promoting schools, the development of Aflaj interfaces, an alternative power initiative, an environment hygiene initiative, the development of traditional agriculture systems in Falaj Al Buraimi and Sa’ara, mobile food carts, the development of driving school locations, the ‘Our home, Our Medic’ initiative, and other initiatives. Dr Jean Jabbour handed over the recognition certificate to Shaikh Rashid bin Said al Kalbani, Wali of Al Buraimi.
