“The AIG has ordered a highpowere­d investigat­ion into the matter to uncover the facts behind the allegation for an informed disciplina­ry measure to be taken.

“The zone will not tolerate any criminalit­y among officers that are saddled with the responsibi­lity of crime prevention and order maintenanc­e.”

Five policemen who forcibly collected N3 million from a man last week are to be prosecuted.

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Calabar, Cross River State, Jonathan Towuru, who disclosed this in a statement dated July 2, 2024, and signed by SP Nelson Okpabi, said the disciplina­ry would deter others from such criminalit­y.
