Chefs of the Day

-

Burger Wellington has ended, with thousands of burger lovers visiting almost 200 venues across the Wellington region. There were more than 17,000 ratings from diners, which determined the finalists to be assessed by a panel of judges.

We heard from the chefs behind the top five burgers about their creations, and how you can still try them. The winner will be announced on September 2.

Burger: Celebration of Spices

What would you say to someone coming to try your burger?

This burger is an inspiration from my childhood memories, playing with a variety of spices whilst cooking with my Mum to make our celebration dish, biryani. My play on this burger is to bring those aromatic and beautiful flavours into a bun, and celebrate the spices that made me fall in love with food as a child. We will be running a special burger service every Saturday in September from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at our restaurant in Aotea, Porirua. Bookings are essential.

Who: Elijah Cooper, Head Chef/Owner at Elemental Eats

Burger: Mucho Crunch Birria

What would you say to someone coming to try your burger?

The Mucho Crunch Birria is a burger with contrasting flavours and textures. You can play with the Mucho by either pouring or dipping the consommé. Get ready for the crunch, and get ready to get messy (napkins are a must!). It’s available this week at Elemental Eats, Porirua. Monday-Saturday 7.30am to 2.30pm, and Thursday and Friday 5.30 to 8.30pm.
