Malta’s two‐time Paralympian nominated for the Paris 2024 IPC athlete’s council elections

-

A record 26 candidates have been nominated for election dur‐ ing the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games to fill six summer repre‐ sentative roles on the Interna‐ tional Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes‘ Council. One of the candidates contesting the po‐ sition is Malta’s own Paralympic swimmer, Vladyslava Kravchenko, who will be seeking re‐election on the Council for a second term.

The IPC Athletes’ Council is a group of elected athlete repre‐ sentatives who act as the voice of the Para athlete community to the IPC.

The election will take place from 26 August to 5 September during the Paris 2024 Para‐ lympic Games. The Athletes’ Council acts as the liaison be‐ tween athletes and decision‐ makers and influences how Paralympic sport and the Move‐ ment grow and develop globally.

Kravchenko is a two time Para‐ lympian and an award winning Para sport advocate. In 2016 she became Malta’s first female swimmer and first female athlete since 1980 to represent the country at the Paralympic Games, repeating the feat in Tokyo 2020. She supported the formal re‐establishment of the Malta Paralympic Committee in 2018 and has been a Board Member since then.

She graduated as a Master of Science in Sport Management, Politics and International Devel‐ opment from Loughborough University, as a recipient of the Malta Sports Scholarship, and was recently awarded an aca‐ demic scholarship by the Lough‐ borough University London to pursue a PhD in Diplomacy and International Governance. Upon announcement of her nomina‐ tion, Vladyslava commented:

“I am committed to being an ac‐ tive voice for athletes from re‐ gions where Para sport is still in its nascent stages, including small states, developing nations, regions in conflict, and countries with recently established Na‐ tional Paralympic Committees.

My personal journey and aca‐ demic pursuits have equipped me with the empathy, knowl‐ edge, and determination needed to drive meaningful change. I am confident that together, we can create a more supportive envi‐ ronment for all Para athletes, re‐ gardless of their geographic, political, and economic circum‐ stances.”
