Recreational space inaugurated in Toni Vella Garden, Naxxar, following €40,000 investment

-

A new recreational space was inaugurated this morning by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, at the heart of Naxxar. This space was inaugurated at the Toni Vella Garden with members of the Naxxar Local Council present.

This project was fulfilled through an investment “of around €40,000” and was financed through the Local Government Division’s scheme entitled, “Financing for the Development and Improvement of the conditions of the Playing Fields in Localities in Malta and Gozo”. This scheme’s main objective is to enable local councils to continue supporting the importance of sport and recreation – two important factors that contribute to a better quality of life, according to the Parliamentary Secretary.

Zerafa Civelli added that through this project, a safe open space has been created for children’s recreation as well as for the residents of the locality. Furthermore, she emphasized that local councils are the most knowledgeable on what are the respective needs of their individual localities. This is the reason as to why the Government keeps launching similar schemes that are eventually implemented by local councils.

“Thanks to this project, the residents of Naxxar have another place for recreation, a few steps away from where they live”, the Parliamentary Secretary said. She also praised the Naxxar Local Council for their work in this project.

Naxxar mayor, Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami, said that her local council was given the necessary additional funds thanks to the aforementioned financial scheme, and with these funds, the local council was enabled to continue carrying out various projects and initiatives for the benefit of Naxxar’s residents. She referred to numerous investments that were made in the locality in recent years, such as a new playground, an outdoor gym in Sgħajtar, the beautification of Ġnien il-Ħaddieda, and the restoration of the TalGħaqba Windmill.

Through schemes issued by the Government, the local council is currently working on three other open space projects. This includes a new playground in San Pawl tat-Tarġa, a new garden in Labour Avenue, and another garden located in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
