‘Sustainable practices crucial for Malaysian rubber industry’
KUALA LUMPUR: Sustainable practices are crucial for the long-term competitiveness of Malaysian rubber products, said Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin.
Hence, he commended latex mattress manufacturer Getha (1969) Sdn Bhd for championing sustainable initiatives.
Chan, during a visit to Getha’s manufacturing facility on Thursday, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting efforts that aligned with global standards and consumer expectations.
The visit also marked a significant step in aligning industry objectives with national policies geared toward sustainability.
“The visit, aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global rubber products market, highlights the increasing need for sustainable practices within the local rubber industry,” said Getha.
During the visit, both parties discussed ways to enhance Malaysia’s natural rubber quality through sustainable practices.
They also emphasised the importance of aligning with evolving international regulations and ensuring that imported natural rubber complied with the European Union Deforestation Regulation.
With facilities spanning over one million sq ft, Getha is capable of producing 600 tonnes of raw latex per month, or the equivalent of tapping an estimated 10 million rubber trees each month.
“Getha’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout its extensive production chain, reinforcing its leadership in the industry while setting a benchmark for eco-conscious manufacturing practices,” said the company.
