Unveiling the uniqueness of musicians with disabilities

-

THE Malaysian Association of Musicians or Musicians for Musicians (MFM) will organise Unveiling Uniqueness (Highlighting Uniqueness) to appreciate the talent of disabled musicians.

The event, which will feature an exposition, a workshop and the Unveiling Uniqueness concert that will showcase disabled musicians supported by professional local musicians, will be held at Menara BAC in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on July 13.

Organiser Edwin Nathaniel said they hoped to showcase the best performances of disabled musicians.

“This allows them to shine and show the full potential of their music.”

An audition for the disabled community through support groups, non-governmental organisations and schools was organised to seek out talent for the concert. Parents, music teachers and therapists helped to unearth talent across the country.

Almost 100 people attended the audition, with some coming from

Kelantan and Sarawak.

Edwin said the response was overwhelming with 33 musicians selected to perform onstage.

The expo will feature vendors, entrepreneurs and businesses from the disabled community involved in the creative arts, including artistes, writers, music teachers and craftspeople.

Visitors will be able to participate and use percussion instruments to create rhythms and sounds during the workshop.

Edwin said the expo and workshop will be held at Dewan Horizon in Menara BAC from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.

He said tickets for the concert, which will take place at Omnia Auditorium in BAC Tower at 7pm, are priced at RM70 (lower level) and RM50 (upper level).

“The public can donate cash or via money transfer. All donations will be channelled to MFM to benefit and promote disabled musicians,” he said.

MFM is a not-for-profit association committed to helping Malaysian musicians working in clubs, hotels and the like to sustain their creative endeavours.
