Braco road said to be haunted
Residents of Braco in Trelawny believe the main road there is haunted, thus contributing greatly to fatal crashes, the latest resulting in four more deaths 0n Sunday.
Head of the Trelawny police, Superintendent Winston Milton, said speeding contributed to the crash which claimed the lives of hotel workers, Sebrina Downie, Anthony Walters and Judy Levy – all of St Ann addresses – as well as taxi driver Marlon Lyons. The police said that about 8 a.m., Lyons was driving a Toyota Probox motor car towards St James when it collided into the back of a truck. The crash occurred less than a mile from where Lyons resided in Braco.
A Braco resident, who asked not to be named, told THE STAR that it is a common belief in the community that the main road is haunted.
“Speeding could be a factor, but mi think the road want some prayer. Maybe us, as children of God haffi go tek it on as a march, and march pon the troubled spot dem, and plead the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,” the resident said.
“From before the highway build the road haunted, enuh. Before the highway, we had accidents where people died same way. So this road is just a troubled road. So many accidents? One behind the other? The road is haunted man. It’s not only speeding,” she insisted.
Trelawny has recorded 22 road fatalities since the start of the year. Islandwide, there have been 231 road deaths as at August 5. Lyons’ friend Kirk Parkes, a car wash operator, said the cabbie contemplated giving up his keys.
“’You know seh mi a guh stop run taxi. Mi a guh park da car yah’,” Parks said Lyons told him. Lyons plied the Discovery Bay to St Ann’s Bay taxi route.
“That was just a regular Sunday morning run. Him left fi go pick up the people dem fi carry dem go dung a the hotel and come back fi wash his car,” said Parkes.
