Natty Sean to release first love-inspired juggling

- NATASHA WILLIAMS STAR Writer Sizzla.

Reggae recording artiste Natty Sean said despite his intentions for his recent project being a collaboration, in a twist of love, he is pleased to release the ‘Revival’ rhythm – the first ‘juggling’ project of his recording label.

“The inspiration behind this project arose from a place of love; love for humanity, reggae culture and music on the whole. There was never an intent or plan for a project of this nature, however, the stars aligned and here we are. The original intent was to create a riddim for a collaboration between one of our iconic female artistes and myself. Even though the project morphed into a juggling, an amazing collaboration emerged and is set to be release soon,”

Natty Sean told

THE WEEKEND STAR.

“Initially, legendary producer Mr Nigel Staff and myself insisted that only live instruments will do justice to the sound that he had created. So we arranged a session at Anchor studio [and] I mentioned it to the great Sizzla Kalonji [and when] he heard the riddim, [he] went into the booth and recorded his song Ghetto Youths, even before the riddim was completed. The ambience of that night was magical, and it brought back a lot of memories. So when the project evolved, it was decided that ‘Revival’ would be an appropriate name for the riddim,” he explained. Sizzla’s song is credited for forming the catalyst behind the project which features 11 top-tier dancehall/ reggae artistes such as Fanton Mojah, Munga Honorable, Lutan Fyah and Richie Spice. Its official launch will be on May 24.

Natty Sean said by engaging in this project, he hopes that the world can recognise that these influential artistes of the 90s, are still capable of “singing potent songs with positive messages, that can transcend time”. He underscored that though the artistes on the juggling weren’t intentionally chosen, “the riddim chose them” and the vibe was just right.

“This is the first project of this kind and magnitude for me. I felt an ineffable joy, being able to work with so many great artistes of our time on the same project. There are also other great and talented artistes involved such as Elijah Prophet, Lymie Murray, Devano and J.A. Outlaw.

Their musical prowess speaks volumes. It was magical for me, as an artiste/producer to have an experience as this with such great artistes,” the Lift My Voice singer shared.

Though the musical trajectory had picked up speed way past a certain kind of ‘one-drop’ style of music, Natty Sean is confident that his “cool-and-deadly” lovers’ rock mix will have a similar impact like the popular 2005 ‘Drop Leaf’ rhythm.

“Because Jamaica and the rest of the world haven’t seen or heard, a reggae juggling like this in a very long time; they have been patiently waiting and now the wait is over,” he said. “The desired impact from this body of work is to ensure that the authenticity and fundamental aspect of the music and culture be preserved and maintained.”

Natty Sean, who has been producing since 2009, said he felt really accomplished as this is the first project in which he has produced multiple artistes, under the Heart Ah Love Records Inc banner.

Upon the release of the Revival rhythm, the Canada-based reggae singer will be working on his debut album, along with an upcoming single. Natty Sean is known for popular songs such as Rastafari Run Di World, and the 2021 hit, Break These Chains featuring
