Culture Night to celebrate Wexford’s diversity, traditions, music, and art
CULTURE Night returns on Friday, September 20 and sees an exciting line-up of free events celebrating culture, creativity, and the arts taking place across Co Wexford. Running from 4 p.m. until late, there will be art, music, poetry, tours, workshops and film screenings in every corner of the county and organisers are encouraging everyone to explore and try something new at Culture Night 2024.
As part of this year’s Culture Night Late programme, Wexford Arts Centre will present a special outdoor event, ‘Reflections’. This celebratory event will combine live animation, projections, music and poetry with projections illuminating the Wexford Arts Centre building as it marks its 50th anniversary.
Reflections will feature projections by Algorithm, artworks by Jonny Murphy and Mirona Mara and live spoken word and soundscape by Stephen James Smith and Basciville.
Around the county highlights include Screen Wexford’s showcase of locally-produced short films in St Michael’s Theatre, New Ross at 8 p.m. and a performance by The New Ross Drama Group in the local library at 7 p.m.
In Templeshannon Community Centre, Enniscorthy, Ukrainian artists Yana Torchynska, Olena Cheberya and Julia Syrotenko present a performance which reveals the ethnic history of the Ukrainian wedding ritual at 9.30 p.m. Meanwhile, The Presentation Arts Centre invites everyone to get creative and reimagine Enniscorthy in a collaborative artwork that will be displayed at the end of the night.
In north Wexford, Seal Rescue Ireland hosts a special screening of the animated film Song of the Sea for young audiences and families, while Gorey School of Art is hosting a programme of events including live music, film screenings, and interactive art workshops like zine-making, painting, and digital art.
The heritage site of St. Brioc’s
Well will be the focal point for an inclusive community event in Rosslare, ‘filling the well’ with contributors from the local community, through music and stories.
All events are free, but some will have limited availability and may need booking. For more information on County Wexford Culture Night 2024, visit www. culturenight.ie/wexford
