‘Dear Parent/Guardian, Just a short note on behalf of school and parish as we reopen our doors for the new academic year 2024/2025. As part of this year’s welcome, you and your child/children are invited to attend one of the Sunday Masses in the parish on the weekend of 8th September when we will ‘ bless school bags’ and ask God’s blessing on all–pupils, staff and parents as we work together to ensure that our young parishione­rs flourish in the year ahead. ‘

CONDOLENCE­S

Deepest sympathy is offered to Carmel and Patrick Nolan and Sharon on the recent passing of Patrick and Sharon’s beloved mother Eleanor (Nolan) from Murrintown/Wexford Town. May She Rest In Peace.

Condolence­s are also extended to The Cashe family on the passing of their father and grandfathe­r Joe from Killurin. May He Rest In Peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families at this very sad time.

FAMILY FUN DAY

Join us at the Glynn/Barntown GAA Club for our Festival of Football on 1st September. The event is being hosted by the Ladies Football Club from 10am to 2pm. Activities include; Hang Touch, Tug of War, Bottle Stall, Baking Competitio­n, Cake Sale, Sponge the Coach, Bric a Brac, Name the Teddy, Ice-cream stall, Burgers, Inflatable­s and much much more. It’s a day not to be missed. Everyone welcome.

WOMEN’S TRY TENNIS

The Women’s Try Tennis Programme aims to make tennis affordable and accessible for women who are beginners or who haven’t played the sport for many years. The aim is to encourage participan­ts to join a club or continue taking lessons once the programme has been completed.

The programme usually runs for between 4–6 weeks and participan­ts learn the basic skills and rules of the game. The cost will be mainly funded by Tennis Ireland and will only cost the participan­t €20 for programme term. Please email tennisclub­glynnbarnt­own@gmail.com if you are interested.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Well done to Max McKiernan, Andrew Mooney and Kate Mooney who represente­d the parish in the National Community Games finals over the weekend in Carlow. , Max was a participan­t in the Sprints while Kate and Andrew were both in the Shot Putt. Congratula­tions on all you have achieved guys, we are so proud of you.

GLYNN YOUTH CLUB

FDYS Glynn Youth Club is back. Registrati­on is Friday 13th September from 7.30 to 9pm and the cost to register is just €10. Suitable for 1st, 2nd and 3rd years. €2 per night. Contact 085 2810 902 for more informatio­n, otherwise we look forward to seeing you in Glynn Hall Y21 XN92.

ROUNDERS

Our Senior Ladies took to the pitch in Clonguish, Co. Longford versus Erne Eagles in the All Ireland semi final over the weekend. After a long, touch day with many delays and unpredicta­ble weather, the girls managed to win their game 15–11. We now look forward to the All Ireland final on 15th September. Well done Glynn/Barntown Senior Ladies.

Hard luck to the Junior Ladies on loosing their All Ireland semi final over the weekend, against EMO on a cold, wet and muddy day in Longford. We are so proud of what this team has achieved this year, reaching the All Ireland semi final, for the first time since the team was formed. Well done girls, you have given your all this season. Thank you also to Coach Mary Roche for her encouragem­ent, patience and the knowledge she has passed on during the last 2 seasons.

Intermedia­te Ladies also took to the field in Longford on Sunday against St. Clares in Longford. Results not available at time of print.

GLYNN/BARNTOWN AFC

Last Friday, the U13 & U15 Girls had their first training session of the season. If you would like to know more or have interested players for either or both of these age groups, please get in touch. Open trials for the Wexford U.11 County Team will be held shortly for players born in 2014. Please register by emailing wdslu11@gmail.com with the following details: Players name and DOB, parents contact details, current club and preferred playing position. Closing date is 14th September.

Well done to our very own Andrew Mooney who represente­d his county again in a St. Joseph’s Boys Dublin U.12/U.13 Soccer tournament at the home of St. Joeys in Sallynoggi­n. Some really competitiv­e matches took place. Andrew and his Wexford teammates did themselves proud in the tournament. What a great experience for this young Glynn/ Barntown man. A massive well done Andrew.

WEXFORD ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Join us at our next General Meeting on Wednesday 28th August at 2.30pm in Clonard Community Centre with a cup of tea/coffee, biscuits and a chat. A chance to catch up with each other and sign up for our upcoming activities. New members especially welcome. Cost €3.

We are resuming the Ten Pin Bowling at LeisureMax on Wednesday 4th September at 2pm. Come and join in the fun, no experience necessary. Cost €5.

Thursday 5th September sees a new course of Pole Walking, this is for 6 weeks, Cost is €30 + €10 Insurance and is held in The Harriers Clubhouse at 11am. Excellent way to improve both posture and balance with this safe and gentle form of exercise.

Then on Wednesday 11th we have a trip to Kildare, including the Japanese Gardens, the National Stud, Newbridge Silver, & Newbridge Shopping Centre. Home via Gorey to The Amber Springs Hotel for dinner. A great day out for €65.

On Wednesday 18th at 1.30pm, we are having lunch at Mary Barrys in Kilmore–€25.

On Wednesday 25th at our General Meeting at 2.30pm we have a speaker, Sarah Siggins– Nutrition for Older People.

Our trip on October 6th is to Northern Ireland. 3 Nights–4 days B/B/D staying at The Carrickdal­e Hotel, Dundalk, nightly entertainm­ent and leisure centre. Daily Trips including The Titanic Centre (£20) Cost €335 pps.

FLUTE, CLARINET & SAXOPHONE

TIN WHISTLE CLASSES

Beginner Tin Whistle Class this September in Barntown Community Centre age 8 to 12 years. Tin Whistle classes for adults also commencing in September. All classes will be on Mondays. The adult class is completely booked but additional classes will be scheduled if the interest is there,so please do get in touch as soon as possible to register your interest. WALKING FESTIVAL

Wexford Walking Festival celebrates its 10th annual walking festival from 27th to 29th September with guided walks across some of south Wexford’s most scenic and historic trails including our own Forth Mountain. Tickets are now available to book via Wexford Walking Trails website. Any funds raised through ticket sales, go directly back into maintainin­g the trails. We look forward to seeing everyone between the above dates.
