cute mindful demure

Our columnist is keeping it cute and mindful with her make-up for a demure look, but can she pull it off?

- Triona McCarthy

Demure is trending on TikTok and while it isn’t a word that anyone would use to describe me, aka Ms Party McCarthy (especially if they saw me at Bantry Show where I somehow came second in the Tug-O-War and came home in a cattle truck — thank you Gene Lynch) I do love a trend so here goes!

The concept of demure is down to a creator called Jools Lebron (@joolieannie), who described it as being modest, mindful and cute. Jools recently described her demure make-up look at work, and said that she doesn’t go to work looking like a “clown” or heaven forbid, with a “green cut crease”.

This week, we’re going to look at products that are both elegant and cute, to help you nail that demure aura.

I feel brows need to be tidy and chic for this look, so if yours are a bit unruly, I’d reach for Brow Aid’s The Brow Blade (€33, browaid.com), created by brow queen Kim O’Sullivan. The 4-in-1 pencil has a brush, in-built sharpener, refill and a unique angled tip that mimics that of a blade. This allows a tailor-made stroke, from thin to thick, to give you perfectly groomed and shaped brows, and it comes in five shades.

Nice hydrated skin lends itself to demureness and the Shiseido Revitalessence Glow Primer (€44, boots.ie, below )isa great new product. It provides long-lasting hydration and instantly smooths and brightens for better make-up application and wear. It’s powered by fermented kefir+ and niacinamide, two prebiotics that fuel the skin’s ability to maintain a healthy microbiome.

Could anything lend itself to demureness more than the Trinny London Sheer Shimmer in Violine (€29, trinnylondon.com). It’s a natural, rosebud shade with flecks of subtle shimmer, and it adds a dewy glow and iridescence to anything it touches. Swipe it across lips, cheeks and even eyelids for that cute-but-fresh look.

I’m also loving the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Lip Glaze (€12.99, mccabespharmacy.com), which has just got a glow-up with three adorable new shades — Cotton Candy, Caramel Swish and Floral Cream. It is infused with hyaluronic acid and squalane to leave lips feeling moisturised all day long (chapped lips are soooo not demure) and the extra-large wand applicator ensures a mirror-like shine in just one swipe.

Finally, while you’re getting ready, transform your bathroom into a luxurious spa-like sanctuary by lighting La Bougie’s Coconut and Hibiscus Candle (€30, labougie. com). This will envelop you in creamy, tropical notes of coconut and delicate, floral essence of hibiscus, which is the perfect scent for demure ladies AND gentlemen everywhere as you practise saying you are very demure.
