Phylis (83) loved being surrounded by her family
THE late Philomena (Phylis) O’Gorman (née O’Neill, McDonald), will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her as a gentle and loving woman who always put others before herself.
Phylis sadly passed away at her house in Deerpark, Foulksmills, on Saturday, August 10, aged 83, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and reared in Ballyvergin, Adamstown, Philomena – or Phylis as she was known – was the daughter of the late Margaret O’Neill (née McDonald).
Phylis lived in Ballyvergin until she was 21-years-old. She met and married her late husband Liam, setting up a new life with him at Rathimney, Gusserane. After a time they moved to Horetown, Foulksmills and then to Deerpark, where she settled down and reared her eight children: Mag, Chris, Sean, Joan, Pat, Tom, Tony and the late baby Philomena.
Her home was always an open one and and everybody was always warmly welcomed, and she never turned anyone away.
Phylis was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, 29 grandchildren and in later years she welcomed 38 great-grandchildren.
Phylis always loved going to bingo and socialising with her many friends at Taghmon Day Care Centre. She was well-known for her craftwork and her Aran jumpers travelled the world, as did her knitted hedgehogs; she loved nothing more than creating a treasured item for new arrivals into the family.
Her funeral mass was celebrated in St Garvan’s Church, Carroreigh, on Monday, August 12, by Fr Robert Maguire PP and Fr Boggan. She was laid to rest in Kilgarvan Cemetery.
Phylis will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relations and friends.
