New Ross Sea Scouts open newly renovated hall in Marsh Lane

THE New Ross Sea Scouts were joined by family, friends, and past members for the grand opening of the newly renovated scout hall in Marsh Lane last weekend. Group leader Patricia Power welcomed everyone to the opening before sea scout leader Evan Rogers led everyone with the Scout Promise.

Colum McCaffrey of the Malahide Sea Scouts and Sea Scouting Team Lead then spoke about the importance of scouting, the diverse adventure programme it offers young people of all ages, and the great community resource it provides locally.

Cathaoirle­ach of Wexford County Council ( WCC) Councillor Pip Breen then presented Sarah Meehan with her five year service award, Ned Brennan, Director Scouting Ireland presented Jenna Croarkin with her ten year service award, Anthony O’Flynn presented Patricia Power with her 20 year service award, Sinead Mccarthy presented Alex Kelly with her 30 year service award and Paddy Delaney presented Phil Croarkin with her 35 year service award.

Group Treasurer Sarah Meehan summarised the extensive project works and resulting facilities and acknowledg­ed the support of the Community Centre Investment Fund Department of Rural and Community Developmen­t, Wexford County Council, New Ross Municipal District, WWETB Adult & Community Education,

New Ross Credit Union Ltd, the Tottenham Estate and all the donations received. Sarah also thanked past and present volunteers and the local community for supporting the group in their fund raising efforts over the years.

James Browne, Minister of State, Department of Justice then formally opened the scout hall acknowledg­ing the amazing members and support from New Ross community.
