United are a complete mess. They look like a team going nowhere

SLO

-

I THINK Liverpool will win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

There is still some aura lingering at Manchester United that belongs in the past, in the Ferguson era.

Some clubs still fear the Stretford End, and particularly defending that end when United are playing into it.

There is an echo of the past there — but the current team don’t have the players from the past and they don’t have the right attitude.

None of their players are happy. United are a mess.

United and Liverpool, the two sets of fans, the clubs, they really don’t like each other.

And that means, when you’re trying to figure out how a match will, go, that it’s not easy.

On the basis of what we have seen so far in this fledgling season, and also what we witnessed last term, United are all over the place.

They are most unimpressive.

Lost

Already this season, they have lost a match, 2-1 at Brighton last Saturday, although they did win their opener against Fulham.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have looked smooth, aggressive and full of quality in their 180 minutes so far this season.

Of course, those opening two fixtures were against Ipswich and Brentford — so it’s going to be different at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Arne Slot looks like he is in full control of things.

He doesn’t get carried away, and his behaviour on the touchline is good.

During their win over the Bees last Sunday, towards the end the Kop starting singing a song about their new Dutch manager.

His Anfield reign has gotten off to a good start.

Liverpool are more aggressive when they don’t have the ball and they’re playing with more intensity at the back, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold hugely impressive.

They could have won by five goals last weekend, not only the 2-0 it ended up being.

In contrast, United have been stumbling badly.

Unhappy

I don’t think Marcus

Rashford is giving it absolutely everything that he can.

The fans are starting to get on to him but it’s obvious that he’s unhappy.

He’s on over €385,000 a week on his new contract!

Casemiro’s legs look, to me as if they have gone.

He has got a big heart and is very experienced (you don’t win what he has won at Real Madrid if you are not a good player) but time has caught up on him.

Erik ten Hag’s position has always looked tenuous and never more than now.

Look at Antony, who Ten Hag coached at Ajax. He spent

€95m on him but the Brazilian is stuck on the bench,

He has not done his stuff at all in England.

There are a number of things you’d have to question, such as the fitness of Luke Shaw and the endeavour of Rashford.

Things do not look right.

Is Ten Hag really in charge? The club brought in Dan Ashworth from Newcastle, backroom staff from all over, but the manager was given a new contract.

I think he is still on trial at United.

Slot is not.

We’ve seen a seamless transition from Jurgen Klopp to the new man. He’s made the changes he wants to make.

They were almost the easiest team to score against in the

Premier League for a long time but against Ipswich and Brentford we saw more aggression from Alexander-Arnold, he was marking wingers rather that wandering around.

Tackles

Van Dijk was winning headers and making tackles.

They have very, very good players that will enjoy playing for Slot but no-one is guaranteed a place.

Alexander-Arnold was

OUT OF SORTS: Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford looks dejected during last week’s Premier League defeat against Brighton at the Amex unhappy to be taken off last week but in my view it was Slot sending a signal.

‘I don’t care who you are, if you’re not doing what I want then you are not in the team’.

It was impressive, it was needed and there’s no doubt now that we are not talking about Klopp.

It’s Arne Slot’s time now and he is making this his team.

For all the changes, they are still playing with great confidence.

Ipswich an the kind of been getting Anfield in r

From wha far this seas fancy Liver on Sunday.

At

Their attit have the qu injuries.

They have players this and Mamar United keep that they do
