Maupay seals Marseille loan

NEAL Maupay has left Everton on loan for the second time with another apparent broadside at the Merseyside club.

The controversial striker is joining Marseille after scoring just once in 32 appearances over two unhappy years at Goodison Park.

The deal contains an obligation for the French club to buy Maupay at the end of his loan for €4.2m, although it could yet just be a permanent deal with the agreement still to be finalised.

Maupay (inset) revealed his joy by posting on his social media account a video from the film ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ of the lead character Andy Dufresne celebrating his release from prison.

It follows a pop at the club when he left on loan to his former club Brentford in January.

Everton manager Sean Dyche insisted he was unaware of the latest post saying: “I’m not a social media user so I don’t have a clue.

“He came and spoke to us today so no problems at all. He said ‘if this goes through then thanks for all your help’. I said ‘absolutely cool’ thanks very much.

“He left on amicable terms — he said a lot of things about the club when he went to Brentford and that obviously wasn’t helpful for him but his time was tough here.

“If things work out for him for a fresh start then that’s the way it goes but if it doesn’t then he needs to come back and he will work hard again. That’s all part of being a professional footballer.”

As Maupay departed, Orel Mangala arrived with Dyche hoping to complete a loan deal for the Lyon defensive midfielder before tonight’s transfer deadline.
