ASTON IN MIX FOR MAX
MARTIN have opened negotiations with Max Verstappen over a sensational move to the Silverstone-based team.
And the three-time world champion could be tempted, with an agreement for design guru Adrian Newey to move to Aston Martin looking like a done deal.
The Essex-born engineer’s switch is expected to be officially announced in September, but Aston owner Lawrence Stroll is not stopping at poaching Newey from Red Bull.
The billionaire Canadian businessman wants Verstappen too, with contract talks already underway.
With Honda engaged in an exclusive partnership to power Aston from 2026, and Newey attached to the project, it is easy to see why Verstappen (right) would view the opportunity as one worth exploring.
Debate
His future has been a constant topic of debate this season, with the Dutch racer allegedly frustrated by the Christian Horner text message saga, as well as the team’s lack of development progress compared to McLaren and Mercedes.
The 26-year-old headed into the summer shutdown with no wins in four races.
And while Verstappen’s 78-point lead should prove enough to deliver a fourth successive drivers’ championship, his prospects for 2025 look less certain if current trajectories continue.
Aston Martin will face competition for the Dutchman’s signature, though, with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff intent on landing him as a replacement for the Ferraribound Lewis Hamilton.
If Verstappen does choose to swap Red Bull for Aston Martin then he will partner up with friend and fellow multitime world champion, Fernando Alonso.
