Brian Flanagan NAP OF THE DAY

IT’S another big Monday night in the west where the Tote Connacht National Handicap Chase takes place at Roscommon.

Henry De Bromhead’s horses are in good form and his lightly raced GOLD BULLION (5.48) looks a big player here in the well known Malcolm Denmark silks.

The eight-year-old won a bumper in England with Paul Nicholls and has potential to be a smart horse over fences. His latest effort at the Punchestown Festival was excellent and he should be in the mix this evening.

EACH WAY THIEF

LOCAL trainer Ciaran Murphy does well here and his consistent CHOSEN SHANT (6.18) can reward each-way backers again in the Shanagher Hearing Handicap Hurdle.

The eight-year-old mare has been placed on three of her last four starts, and joined Murphy from Ian Williams’ yard in England a few years back.

She’s reliable, and although a record of 0-23 is a concern she can certainly go well again.

ONE TO WATCH

KIERAN CALLAGHAN is a young jockey getting plenty of chances with WIllie Mullins during these summer months and his 5lbs claim can make a winning difference on Horantzau D’airy (5.18) in the Castlerea Novice Chase.

He found plenty when winning at Clonmel in April and should really enjoy the good ground this evening.

A 134-rated hurdler, he has the potential to reach a higher mark over fences and can continue to progress here.

ONE TO SWERVE

A DREAM To Share won the bumper on this card two years ago so these summer bumpers can throw up future champions despite the time of year.

MINELLA

HOLLOW

(8.18) will need to be smart to followup his

Ballinrobe win a few weeks ago and the 7lbs penalty he carries for that win may just stop him from doing so.

He’ll likely command a nice price should he manage to win though.
