ROYALE FIND: The book

A JAMES Bond book bought for €1 from a car boot sale is tipped to sell for €17,650 after it turned out to be an ‘incredibly rare’ first edition.

The vendor, a 48-yearold woman, spotted the 1953 Ian Fleming novel Casino Royale whale sifting through books on one stall in the UK.

She is not a 007 fan but snapped it up, as she liked the original dustjacket with love hearts on it.

The book ended up in the attic gathering dust until she rediscovered it during a clear-out a few weeks ago.

Out of curiosity, she did some online research about the book and it dawned on her that it might be of significance.

The sale takes place on June 24.

A NEVER-BEFORESEEN photo of David Bowie wearing just a sock and wrapped in a bed sheet has been saved from being thrown in the tip.

The half-naked image of the late rock legend was taken before he was famous and was still using his birth name David Jones.

It shows a 15-yearold Bowie smoking a cigarette as he appears to be sitting naked on a chair covered only by a white sheet.

The previously unseen picture was snapped by the late pop star Arthur Sharp (inset above left), lead singer of 1960s UK rock band The Nashville Teens. Arthur, who enjoyed success with the 1964 top 10 hit Tobacco Road, died on Christmas Day aged 83.

Relatives have now uncovered his incredible collection of music memorabilia crammed into his home. Such was the volume, relatives considered taking items to a charity shop, or even the tip, but decided to call in antiques expert Irita Marriott from TV’s Bargain Hunt.

The rare Bowie photo is among 81 items being sold, which are set to fetch £10,000 (€11,700) when they go under the hammer in the UK on June 12.

Irita said: “I was gobsmacked. It was absolutely amazing.

“Box after box of incredible music memorabilia was all over the house.”

Other items include the original test pressing of Tobacco Road, behind-thescenes photos, contracts and reel tapes.
