47 NIC: IVAN-NA BE LIKE YOU!

- ■■Paul BROWN

NICOLAS Jackson has been watching videos of Ivan Toney to help him master the art of goalscoring.

Premier League rookie Jackson has hit 10 goals for Chelsea this season since signing from Villarreal for £32million (€37.7m) in the summer.

But on the eve of their clash with Brentford, blues boss Mauricio Pochettino revealed Toney is one of several forwards the Senegal striker has been studying.

Chelsea boss Poch said: “Jackson loves to watch different strikers and learn.

Humble

“He is very humble to listen and to accept when we show him different strikers or when we try to advise him on the game.

“Toney is a great striker, an experienced player, with experience of the Premier League.

“Now, of course, Jackson is doing well but he is learning.

“Which strikers do we show him? I think all the strikers in the Premier League are good for him to see.

“And maybe I am showing my age, but also Batistuta, Drogba… experienced players, amazing players, big players. Hasselbaink… You can learn from them always.”

Pochettino exchanged words with a Chelsea fan who said something which angered Jackson during his side’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford last October.

Asked about the incident, Pochettino replied: “It’s tough, really tough. For a guy who was 21, arrived from a different country, a different league, that everyone put a responsibility on to score goals. Come on.

Effort

“He is doing fantastic for me. I really appreciate the effort he is doing.

“He is very tough.

“He is very mature in the way he accepts and deals with that pressure.

“You can see a player that fights, runs, wants the ball even when he made a mistake.

“Even if the fans are not happy, he will try again, he will never give up. And he is scoring goals.

“In his first season here in England, he is doing well.

“Better than people maybe think. Much better.”
