Frozen prices at big stores gets top marks for families
BACK-TO-SCHOOL bargains in all the big shops are a boost to families on a budget.
Both Penneys and Marks & Spencer have frozen their prices for the third year in a row, keeping them at 2021 levels.
Penneys has track bottoms for €12 and a two-pack of crew neck sweaters for €11; navy parka for older boys is well priced at just €23, and will last throughout the winter; while its girls strap shoes at €14 are also good value.
In Tesco F&F, boys’ school shoes are €19, while a three-pack of unisex polo shirts is just a fiver.
A two-pack of cardigans are a tenner and come in navy, red, green, black, grey and blue. Two-packs of trousers are €9 and a duo of pinafores are €11.50.
Tesco’s spin on the school skirt is stylish; with a kilt option and a skater option. Both are priced €7.50 for two.
Marks & Spencer’s school collection is great value, quality and style, with girls’ slim leg school trousers priced €11 to €16; with frilly white socks from €8.25.
Its non-iron school shirts, starting at €11, are handy, while its easy-dressing school trousers are €15-€23.
A pack of three stain-resistant polo shirts start at €9.50.
Dunnes Stores also has a moneysaving range including a trio of polo shirts for a fiver, fleece crew necks from €3.75 and school trousers and skirts for €4.
Sports store Decathlon has given its top back to school items, which includes backpacks for €14, aluminium flasks €11, and lunch boxes €14.
Its rip-tab shoes for kids in a hurry are well-priced at €14; as is its tracksuit at €27.
