Bjorn: ABBA’S fishy name is just so stupid
Teams return to ravine for missing teen
Bjorn Ulvaeus
ABBA’S Bjorn Ulvaeus has admitted he hates the band’s name and wanted it to be called The Northern Lights instead.
And the Swede, 79, said the moniker is even more daft as it is the same as a popular fish firm.
He said: “We made our first records under Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Anni-frid.
“And the DJS on radio and everywhere else got tired of saying that.
“So they just abbreviated it to the initials. We didn’t have a choice in the matter. I thought it was such a stupid name. And it is.
“It’s also the name of a very famous herring factory in Sweden.
“I thought we should have a cool name like The Rolling Stones. The Northern Lights.”
RESCUE teams hunting for missing teenager Jay Slater were yesterday re-examining areas they had already searched in a bid for clues.
Police and fire officers were again seen combing a ravine where it is believed the 19-yearold’s phone last “pinged” shortly after he disappeared.
New photos of the apprentice bricklayer have emerged, showing him partying at the New Rave Generation festival in the south-west of Tenerife.
Jay had left the event with two British men to go back to their holiday rental.
It was more than 20 miles from the apartment in Los Cristianos where best pal Lucy Law, 18, and other friends were – an 11-hour walk through treacherous terrain.
He called Lucy on Monday morning saying he was in the middle of nowhere, trying to get home with no water and 1% phone battery.
It is understood his mobile died 20 minutes later, at 8.50am, somewhere in the Parque Rural de Teno nature reserve.
Last night, Jay’s heartbroken mum Debbie Duncan, 55, was still waiting anxiously for updates alongside his dad Warren Slater, 58.
His older brother Zak, 24, said: “We just want him to come back. We don’t know where he is or what has
Jay’s mother Debbie Duncan happened. I just want him to come home safe. I just wish he had come home.”
He and dad Warren last night put up missing posters in Santiago del Teide, where a witness told police they believe they saw Jay last Monday night.
The village is nearly four miles from Masca, where Jay had last been confirmed to have been seen around 10 hours earlier.
Churchgoers in Jay’s home town of Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, yesterday attended a service for him by the Rev Matt Smith at West End Methodist Church.
And Jay’s friends continued to fly into the Spanish island to join the search, alongside strangers touched by his story.
One British woman, who preferred not to be named, said: “I didn’t know Jay but I just felt like I had to do what I can. It’s heartbreaking.”
Former police detective Mark Williams-thomas, who helped expose Jimmy Savile and has investigated a string of highprofile missing persons cases, yesterday reached out to the family offering his expertise.
The investigator-turned-journalist said: “I have offered the help of my team to get Jay’s mum answers.
“With feet on the ground I will very quickly be able to say if his disappearance is him alone or has thirdparty involvement.”
