Mouse to get out of the traps
INEXPERIENCED over fences but potentially well-handicapped, Mousey Brown appeals in the Cooke’s Bar & Restaurant Caragh Handicap Chase in Kilbeggan tomorrow.
Trained by Dermot Mcloughlin, who was among the winners with
The Echo Boy in Ballinrobe this week, this mare won two staying handicap hurdles this spring, which saw her mark rocket to 128, and competes here on her handicap chase debut off a mark of 106.
Mousey Brown won a two-and-a-half mile Full Circle qualifier at Down Royal in mid-march (off 114) and followed-up, off a 6lb higher mark, when nabbing Olympic Man close home in a three-miler at Fairyhouse over Easter.
Effective at this trip, Mousey Brown, in the frame in two of her three starts over fences, looks particularly well-treated and, with Paddy O’hanlon on board, should run a big race in a competitive handicap which features last-time-out scorers Time Marches On and A Mere Bagatelle.
Similar reservations on the grounds of inexperience and trip apply to the Denis Hogan-trained Riyami in the Midlands National 12th July Handicap Hurdle.
This Fastnet Rock gelding had registered three wins on the flat, all over two miles on Dundalk’s polytrack, off marks ranging from 56 to 72.
Although he has shown little in four outings over obstacles, Riyami races off a mark of 99, which looks workable, if he copes with this two miles around the unique Kilbeggan terrain.
And, if all else fails, punters will probably side with the Willie Mullinstrained newcomer Dysart Dazzler in the bumper.
Bred by her owner Eleanor Manning, this Flemensfirth gelding is a half-brother to two winners, notably the talented but enigmatic Grade 2 winner Dysart Dynamo.
And, if the market speaks in his favour, Dazzler should be tough to beat.
