- By ISABEL COLLERAN

AT nearly 85 years old, Patrick (Paddy) Fleming of Annagh Hill, Gorey, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, September 8.

Paddy was the beloved husband of Maura, loving father of Freda, John, Brenda, Caroline, Ciaran, Eimear and Deirdre, brother of Jack, Betty, Una and the late Jim and Maggie.

His funeral took place at St. Peter and Paul’s Church Kilanerin on Wednesday, September 11, followed by burial in Limbrick Cemetery Kilanerin.

Paddy was held in high regard by those who knew him which was evident by the long queue at his removal the night before, which trailed all the way down the street.

His daughter Freda said a few words on behalf of their family at the funeral. “He lived with a passion for perfection, lived with love for his wife Maura and his family and friends. People often say simple things can make a massive difference. Paddy loved the simple things in life, he loved his farm, he loved to hunt, he loved to set dance, he loved travelling but most of all he loved to chat and talk to people.”

“Be it his neighbours, friends or strangers, he had a great knack for meeting and talking to all sorts of people and striking up conversations about God knows what,” said Freda.

A man of many interests, he was the winner of a number of All Ireland medals for his dancing skills. Paddy and his wife Maura of 60 years, would travel up and down the country with the Annagh Set Dancers, winning many competitions along the way.

Furthermore, he had a love of all things horses as well as travel and farming. Most of all, he adored his wife Maura, his seven children and 20 grandchildren.

“Paddy was a family man through and through. He adored his wife Maura, loving to see her dolled up to the nines. He also took great pride in his seven children, admiring everything they done and was always there with advice and ready to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in.

“Probably his greatest pride was his 20 grandchildren, he always loved to see them, play practical jokes on them and rise them in any way he could but he always admired and took great pride and joy in their achievements, ” she said.

His family requested for donations, if desired, to be made to Carnew Community Care.

Paddy will be deeply regretted and will be sadly missed by his wife, sons, daughters, brother, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May He Rest in Peace.
