Little Blue Heroes goes country in Bree

- By RACHEL CAHILL

THE Little Blue Heroes Foundation had a very successful night earlier this month by bringing country music to Bree in the name of charity.

The foundation was established in 2017 by members of An Garda Síochána, including retired members and civic-minded people from local communities but are entirely separate and receive no funding from An Garda Síochána.

Their mission is to help and support families of children with serious illnesses in Ireland.

This includes granting the wishes of children to become a ‘Honorary Gardaí’ to simultaneously empower the child while fostering positive engagement and association with the national police force.

Recently they held a country music concert called ‘Little Blue Heroes Goes Country’ in Byrnes Grainstore in Bree.

Niall Maher said they were inspired by Bree Country Fest from the previous September, and that will be taking place again this coming August.

The acts Stuart Moyles, The Rattlin’ Rogues, Cliona Hagan & Johnny Brady took to the stage at 6.30pm and performed for a packed house who enjoyed the full bar, food stalls, and ample space to dance with their partners.

Mr Maher thanked the support of the local community for their outpouring of support.

He said “It could not have happened without the support of the residents of the parish of Bree and its surrounds.”

He praised the generosity of Gary and Josephine Byrne especially for providing the venue for the event, the locals who gave a hand in the preparation, and the volunteers who came out in droves on the night.

Speaking on the large list of sponsors he said “their generosity blew us away.”

Main sponsors of the night included Kearns Fruit Farm, Ballindaggin, Hammels Centra, Bree and Crown Quarters, Wexford.

A great night of entertainment was had by all and the charity, located in Meath, was highly appreciative of the support garnered by the people of Wexford.
