Man dials up PCR to report killing of father, turns out to be murderer: Cops
A PCR call by a man from Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Saturday about his father’s murder “by two intruders” at their home turned out to be an attempt to mislead police, and eventually led to his arrest, said officials. Identified as Mahesh Thakur, the caller allegedly plotted the murder following a property dispute.
The PCR call was received around 8: 40 am. At first, Mahesh tried to pin the blame on "intruders" at his home, alleging that two men had broken into his house early in the morning and stabbed his father to death.
He claimed that he heard noises coming from his father's room at 6: 15 am. When he went to check, he saw two men who panicked when they saw him and attacked him with a knife, resulting in an injury on his left hand. The “intruders” fled, and his father, Gautam Thakur, a retired MTNL employee, was lying lifeless in his bed, he told police.
“During the initial investigation, several inconsistencies were found and there were discrepancies in his story," said Apoorva Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police ( East). "After an intense round of questioning, he admitted his father had sold some property two years ago. From the proceeds, his father helped his elder son purchase property in New Ashok Nagar but Mahesh received nothing," DCP Gupta added.
Further, he discovered that his father along with Mahesh's elder brother was "secretly planning to sell the house" where the family was living. Feeling betrayed, Mahesh allegedly killed his father while the rest of the family was asleep. The murder weapon — a kitchen knife — was hidden in a water tank on the roof of a nearby house.
