BJP leader accused in minor’s rape, murder

A BJP leader and a member of Uttarakhan­d’s BJP OBC Morcha is among two booked on Wednesday in the alleged gangrape and murder of a 14-yearold girl in Haridwar.

According to the police, the body of the victim was found on the Roorkee-haridwar highway. The FIR names the accused as

Aditya Raj Saini and his accomplice Amit Saini. In her complaint, the victim’s mother accused Aditya Raj, husband of the local village head and a member of BJP’S OBC Morcha, and Amit Saini of having raped and killed her daughter.

The man has now been removed from the BJP as well as the OBC Morcha. Both suspects have been booked under several IPC sections including murder and gang rape as well as POCSO.

Haridwar Police have refused to reveal details of the case, saying only that it had given “necessary instructio­ns” to SP City and set up five teams “for the speedy and successful disposal of the case”.

“All the teams have been given different tasks to collect scientific evidence and other proofs. The case is being investigat­ed impartiall­y,” Haridwar Senior Superinten­dent of Police Pramendra Dobhal said.

Asked about the arrest of the accused, SP City Swatantra Kumar Singh said that at present, those named in the case are suspects and appropriat­e action will be taken based on the findings of the investigat­ion.

The Congress called the incident “chilling” and said the state’s law and order situation had gone “off the rails”.“uttarak hand is seeing arising number of crimes against women,” Uttarakhan­d Congress chief spokespers­on Garima Mehra Dasauni said.
