On the run for 24 yrs, murder accused held

According to police, in 2000, Pap pu, now 52, establishe­d a plastic factory in West Delhi' s Matiala where he employed Sakinder Yadav, Vijay Yadav, the victim Ramswaroop Yadav, and Rams waroop’ s brother-in-law, all of whom belonged to his village. Pappu's brother Montu also worked in the same factory.

Around this time, an altercatio­n ensued between Ramswaroop and Pappu. After Ramswaroop’s kin went back to his village, Pappu, along with Montu,Vija ya ndSa kinder, strangled him to death and hid his body under a rubble of raw plastic, said police.

A few days later, on February 4, 2000, the victim’s brother, Chando Yadav, registered a complaint tha this 32-year-old brother was missing, said Satish Kumar, DCP, Crime Branch. Upon questionin­g, Pappu said that Ramswaroop left the factory to work elsewhere. “But when police went to the factory premises for checking, they found parts of Ramswaroop’s body in a decomposed state inside plastic bags,” said the DCP.

A case was registered and Montu and Vijay were arrested. Pappu and Sakinder were absconding, said police.

On May 26, 2000, Pappu was declared a proclaimed offender.

Pap pure maine don the run for the next 24 years. his first stop was Surat, Gujarat, where he worked for a couple of years at a cloth mill. He then went to Kolkata, West Bengal, where he worked for six to seven years as a labourer. He finally settled in pat na, bi har,w here he lived for the next several years until the Covid-19 pandemic when he came back to his village, said police.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, a police team began working on cases of absconding criminals. around this time, informatio­n about Pappu surfaced. Based on a tip-off, a raid was conducted to nab the accused and he was arrested, said police.

His accomplice Sakinder remains on the run.
