- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

ALMOST A month after a college student Neha Hiremath was stabbed to death by her former classmate on an university campus, a 21-year-old woman was stabbed to death inside her home in Karnataka’s Hubballi Wednesday by a man for allegedly rejecting his advances.

The accused Vishwa alias Girish Sawant, 23, allegedly stabbed Anjali Ambigera multiple times. She died on the spot and the accused fled the scene, a senior police officer said, adding that her sister had witnessed the murder. The victim was staying with her sisters and grandmother.

Police have lodged a case of murder under IPC Section 302 against Vishwa and teams have been formed to nab him.

According to locals, the victim’ s grandmother had informed the police after Vishwa had threatened Anjali in the past. Recently, when Anjali refused to travel to My suruwi th Vishwa, he had allegedlythreatened he would murder her like Neha Hire math, according to her sister, who accused the police of inaction after being informed of the threat.

“Girish was harassing my sister Anjali for sometime now. My sister had rejected his advances. He even pressured my sister to go with him to Mysuru. He had also threatened her that she will meet the same fate as that of Neha Hiremath,” Anjali's sister Yashodha told reporters. “When we informed the police about his threats, they didn't pursue it seriously and today my sister is dead,” she said. A police officer denied the allegation.

Anjali's family and local residents staged a protest, demanding strict action.
