- Raina Assainar

A 20-year-old woman from Taloja lost her legs after being run over by a train at the C B D Belapur railway station on Monday morning. Rohini Rajesh Bote, 20, was waiting on Platform No. 3 of the station when she suddenly fell on the tracks just before a Panvel-Thane train reached the spot. The motorman braked but by then, one of the coaches had already run over her.

A viral video of the incident shows the local train slowly reversing, after an alarm was raised by commuters on the platform, to reveal the injured woman lying on the tracks. Further, the woman, with bloodied feet, is seen trying to sit up with great difficulty, as policemen jump on the tracks to help her.

According to Inspector Pravin Padvi of the Panvel Government Railway Police, “Two Railway Police Force staff who were on the spot, rushed to her rescue. The motorman reversed the train and the RPF rescued the lady from beneath the train. Unfortunately, both her legs were severed in the accident. She was rushed to MGM Hospital in CBD Belapur,”.

In her statement to the police, Bote said she suddenly felt dizzy and fell off the platform as the train approached. Bote, who works as a house help, was returning home from work and the incident occurred around 10.03am.

“She works as a house help at C B D Belapur. Usually, she goes home by bus but since it was raining heavily on Monday morning, she decided to take a train up to Kharghar and then reach Taloja using a share-anauto service. Just before the train arrived, she fell on the tracks. We have made a diary entry at the GRP station,” Padvi added. However, police were not able to explain why she was standing at Platform No. 3 where a Panvel-Thane train was scheduled to arrive,
