Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first address at the National Democratic Alliance parliamentary party meeting following the formation of his third government urged the NDA MPs to not behave like Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and to counter his allegations on facts. His reference to the new Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha came a day after Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Modi government and BJP on various counts.

Modi is also learnt to have spoken about how a non-Congress leader has for the first time become a PM for the third successive time.

Speaking about the meeting, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan said the PM also urged the MPs to visit the Prime Ministers’ Museum at Teen Murti to learn various important aspects of modern Indian history.

He said there was “no agenda” behind the appeal and “this was an effort (by him) to let the entire country know of the contribution of each prime minister, appreciate it, and learn from it.”

Paswan added that “when we have seen parliamentary traditions being flouted recently, it means a lot.”

Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “The Prime Minister gave us an important mantra – that every MP has been elected to the House to serve the nation and so, irrespective of the party they belong to, service to the nation is their first responsibility”.

Rijiju added that the PM also guided the MPs on how they should conduct themselves in the House and present the matters of their constituency as per the rules. The minister said the PM also called upon the MPs to “develop expertise in other major issues of interest”.
