Seven time MLA Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 3rd Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh State on Saturday.

Ayyanna's name was announced by Pro-tem Speaker Buchaiah Chowdary. Later, Ayyanna assumed the chair of Speaker.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and BJP leaders made him sit in the Speaker's seat with dignity. YSRCP chief YS Jagan stayed away from the event.

Ayyannapatrudu was elected as MLA from Narsipatnam Assembly constituency in Anakapalli district. He has more than four decades of political experience.

Ayyannapatrudu entered politics in 1983 with the emergence of Telugu Desam Party. Since then, he has supported the party in every possible way. Ayyannapatrudu has been an MLA seven times and an MP once. Ayyannapatrudu, a graduate, has also served as a State Minister for five times so far. He held key portfolios such as technical education, sports, roads, buildings, forest and panchayati raj department. Since 1983, he has contested 10 Assembly elections and two parliamentary elections.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that Ayyanna Patrudu was one of the most senior Members of the State Assembly and added that he was also a firebrand leader of Andhra Pradesh.

He was speaking after the election of Ayyanna as the State Assembly Speaker. “I am happy that Ayyanna has been elected unanimously as the Speaker with everyone's approval. At the age of 25, Ayyannapatrudu entered politics at the invitation of NTR. He was elected as an MLA seven times and an MP once. As an MLA, MP and

Minister, he has made a special mark in the Telugu States," Chandrababu said. He further stated that at the age of 66, Ayyanna is still a fire brand leader and has done politics with ethics, honesty and commitment.

"In the last five years, we have faced a lot of difficulties. Ayyanna has worked hard for the development of north Andhra region . He was booked in several police stations and harassed. Even though 23 cases were filed against him , there was an uncompromising fight by him . It is a rare honour for him to come to the legislature. We must remember that we all have a sacred responsibility. If you work effectively, respect comes automatically,” the Chief Minister reminded.

He alleged that the previous government had damaged the most sacred Assembly and harassed 23 MLAs of their party in the Assembly.

"The YSR Congress leaders have talked about my family at will. I was insulted by not giving the mike. On the same day, I said that I will come to the Assembly as the Chief Minister. I have kept my promise ,” Chandrababu Naidu said.

He further stated that Pawan Kalyan was not allowed to touch the Assembly gate in the past, but this time he has won all 21 Assembly seats.

The Chief Minister said Pawan Kalyan had suffered a lot in the last five years and added that he was pained to see the incidents that had taken place in the Assembly in the last five years.

"Speaker Ayyanna is a person who knows the value of legislatures," Chandrababu said.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the Speaker should move forward with dignity in the House and put an end to the silliness and vulgarity.

He expressed confidence that Ayyanna was a person who knows the value of the legislatures and hoped that the dignity of the House would increase under his leadership.
