Third victim of mob lynching succumbs

Saddam Qureshi, the third youth seriously injured in the mob lynching that took place on the Mahanadi bridge in Raipur-Mahasamund border in Chhattisga­rh, succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday.

Efforts were being made to save Saddam in the hospital for 10 days. Saddam was the only witness in the entire case.

Two youths of Saharanpur (UP), Chand Khan and Guddu Khan, died on the spot. Considerin­g the seriousnes­s of the entire matter, the SIT of Raipur Police is investigat­ing.

On the basis of initial investigat­ion, an FIR of culpable homicide and attempt to murder was registered at Arang police station. The search for the accused is ongoing.

The police expected Saddam to regain consciousn­ess. He lost his life before the accused could be arrested and identified.

On the suspicion of cow smuggling, a dozen youths had physically assaulted all three severely on the night of June 7. The police are investigat­ing the angle that the injured were thrown from the bridge in injured condition or not.

An SIT of 14 officers has been formed to investigat­e the matter, but for the last one and a half weeks passed, no progress of the SIT investigat­ion, its findings have not been reported.

In the Arang mob lynching case, social activists have met the Governor, Home Minister and DGP and demanded action against the accused. There has also been a demand to register an FIR for murder in the case after proper investigat­ion.

As per reports and claims being made, on one side it is being claimed that all three were beaten and thrown away, on the other side it is being claimed that when the attackers stopped the youth riding on the truck, out of fear they jumped off the bridge. It is being claimed that all three had jumped feeling that there will be the presence of water. In the river there was no water below and they hit the stones. Due to which all three suffered serious injuries. Two died on the spot. The third died after 10 days while undergoing treatment.
