Lalu camps in Saran for daughter

- DHEERAJ KUMAR / PATNA

RJD chief Lalu Prasad is leaving nothing to chance to brighten prospects of his daughter Rohini Acharya contesting election from the Saran Lok Sabha constituency.

The Saran constituency will go to poll in the Phase 5 on May 20.

Lalu, who is arguably one of the country’s best political survivors battling fodder scam cases and lately his kidney ailment, was truly again in his element as he is camping in Saran, despite hot and humid weather.

Lalu reached Chhapra, the district headquarters, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting there in support of BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Monday. It was his fourth visit to Saran since the announcement of poll schedule to seek votes for her daughter Rohini Acharya, who had donated one of her kidneys to him and saved his life.

During his stay in Chhapra, Lalu is holding marathon meetings with his old party colleagues to fine-tune the strategy since the date of polling is nearing. He held meetings with RJD’s grassroot workers and also panchayat representatives as they vowed to ensure victory of Rohini from the Saran Lok Sabha seat.

Even Rudy, who is a sitting BJP MP from Saran, acknowledges the fact it is not Rohini in the fray. The real political opponent is Lalu, who is fighting from behind the scene, he claims.

Rohini, who is making debut in electoral politics, is an an MBBS doctor by profession, as she calls herself ‘beti’ (daughter) of Saran as well as ‘bahu’ (daughter-in-law) of Bihar. She made the statement in response to Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha’s remark that Rohini was bahu (daughter-in-law of Singapore and no longer a beti (daughter) of Bihar. She lives with her husband, who is a software engineer, in Singapore.

Rohini during her campaign claims Rudy has done nothing while she has proved to be an ideal daughter. She told newspersons she was not a novice as was active on social media and aware of Bihar’s political developments.

“I have been closely following day-to-day political developments in Bihar and often responded to them on social media platforms. I have learnt nuances of politics from my father, who is my political guru,” she remarked.
