BAIL FOR REVANNA

- S RAJASHEKHARA BENGALURU

Former minister and Janata Dal (Secular) MLA HD Revanna has been granted bail by a local court in connection with the alleged kidnapping of one of the victims sexually assaulted by his MP son, Prajwal Revanna.

He is likely to be released from the prison on Tuesday.

Special People's Representatives Court Judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat who heard the case sanctioned conditional bail to Revanna. Some of the bail conditions include that he should not influence witnesses and victims, should not leave the country and should furnish a personal bond of Rs5 lakh; he cannot visit KR Nagar taluka and should cooperate with the SIT probe.

Revanna, son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was arrested on May 3 by the Special Investigation Team, probing Prajwal’s sex assault cases; this happened a day after the same court rejected the anticipatory bail in a kidnap case that was filed against him by one of the victim’s son.

He was in the SIT custody for almost six days before being remanded in judicial custody on May 8. His judicial custody ends on Tuesday. For the last five days, Revanna, elder brother of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, was lodged at the Bengaluru Central Prison on the city outskirts.

Supporters of Revanna celebrated his bail by bursting crackers at his hometown in Holenarsipura in Hassan district. Advocate in Police Custody: The Holenarsipur police have secured the custody of local BJP leader and advocate Devaraje Gowda for four days. The local Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court remanded Gowda in police custody till May 18 with effect from 9 am on May 14. The advocate who had accused Deputy CM DK Shivakumar of leaking Prajwal's sex tapes was arrested in a rape case filed by one of the Hassan MP's victims. He was arrested on May 10 and remanded in the judicial custody by the local court.

In another development, SIT is likely to take Gowda into custody after completing the formalities. It had served him notice. Gowda is one of the two persons who had a pen drive comprising Prajwal’s obscene video clips and images. The other is Karthik, the MP’s former driver. An SIT team led by inspector Swarna along with forensic experts collected forensic samples at MP Quarters in Hassan and at Revanna's residence in Holenarasipura where Prajwal is said to have raped the victims who have filed cases.
