JAMSHEDPUR: National Commission of Scheduled Tribes (NCST) member Aaha Lakra has said that the demography of entire Jharkhand has been changed drastically - from Ranchi to Santhal Pargana and she would submit a detailed report on it to the commission soon.

She was talking to the media here in Jamshedpur late Monday evening.

“The commission is going to every district in the state and collecting data and feedback related to welfare schemes meant for the tribal (ST) communities - actual ground status and share. Tribals are bringing matters related to Bangladeshi infiltrators to our notice in some places. The commission is very serious and concerned about it and soon we will submit a detailed report to the Central government,” Lakra said, adding that copies of the report would be sent to state chief secretary and DGP to act upon.

“The demography of entire Jharkhand has been changed drastically. From Ranchi to Santhal Pargana - the population of Bangladeshi infiltrators have increased rapidly...This is a matter of grave concern,” said Lakra.

She said how grave the situation was on ground could be gauged from the fact that East Singhbhum district administration has no data on welfare schemes for the ST communities, number of tribal students in schools or number of tribal dropouts.

“They couldn’t provide us any data on tribal population in detail (community wise), education sector, health sector MNREGA, school dropouts. I have directed them to make all the data related to tribal population in the district and share of tribals in all state and central government projects and welfare schemes within three days. Its shocking that not a single case under SC-ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act has been lodged last year. There are 36 police stations (PS) in the district but ST atrocities related case is lodged at a single PS this is not right. All PS should accept such complaints and transfer to SC-ST Atrocities PS if prima facie a case is justified. I have instructed the police authorities to this effect,” said Lakra.

She also enquired about the actual status and volume of tribal land in the district.
