JAMSHEDPUR: The wife of a first-class judicial magistrate in the Jamshedpur district court has filed a first information report (FIR) against their housemaid, alleging scuffle, loot, and blackmailing in the Bistupur police station (PS) in Jamshedpur city, people familiar with the development said on Wednesday.

The FIR came after the housemaid filed a written complaint with the district principal judge Anil Kumar Mishra on Tuesday night against the firstclass judicial magistrate Narendra Kumar, accusing him of sexual exploitation, promising marriage, and forcing her to undergo three abortions and then marrying another girl.

“The magistrate’s wife filed a written complaint against their housemaid last evening, accusing her of misconduct, manhandling, scuffle, loot, extortion, and blackmailing under secwas tions 386, 379, 323, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are investigating the case,” Umesh Thakur, Bistupur PS officer-in-charge (OC), told HT on Wednesday.

Police said that the FIR was registered under the IPC because the incident occurred in June before the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) came into effect on July 1. The sections entail 10-14 years of jail and penal fines.

The magistrate’s wife has alleged that the housemaid demanded Rs 1.50 lakh, which given to her.

On the other hand, the housemaid accused the magistrate of establishing a physical relationship by promising marriage on January 26, 2022, and making her undergo three abortions during their relationship.

“I have been working as a housemaid in Kumar’s house since November 2021. He told me that he was a divorcee and promised to marry me and raise my child too. On January 26, 2022, he put vermilion on my head in the house and accepted me as his wife. We have been living as husband and wife since then. He took me to Chandigarh via Delhi on Rajdhani Express and performed an ‘Adarsh’ marriage in the Mansa Temple there on October 22, 2022. The marriage certificate given by the temple authorities is with me. Meanwhile, he suddenly married his Facebook friend on December 15, 2023,” the woman alleged in her complaint with the district principal judge, a copy of which is with HT.
