Upsets galore at AITA Championsh­ip Series

As many as three seeded players bit the dust on the second day of the All India Tennis Championsh­ip Series-7 on Wednesday, at the SDS Tennis Academy here, losing to their opponents in straight sets.

Unseeded Avi Mishra of Maharashtr­a caused the first upset of the day, outplayed second seeded Yaduraj Singh Bhinai of Rajasthan 6-1, 6-1 to make it to the boy’s singles quarterfin­als.

Playing an aggressive tennis from the very start, Mishra didn’t allow Bhinai a chance to stage a comeback after managing a break in the very second game of the first set. He continued his continued good run in the second set too and won it almost in a similar fashion.

The other two upset of the day came in the girl’s singles category as fourth seeded Yashasvi Srivastava and eighth seeded Geetika Saraswat lost in contrastin­g manner. Whereas compatriot Lavanya Singh defeated local challenger Yashasvi Srivastava 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets, another UP’s girl Aashi Kiran defeated Geetika Saraswat 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
