NEET ASPIRANT DIES BY SUICIDE IN RAJASTHAN
JAIPUR: A 18-year-old student, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to undergraduate medical courses, died by suicide in Jaipur district of Rajasthan, police said on Saturday.
According to Vidhyadhar Nagar station house officer Rakesh Khayaliya, the student jumped off the fifth floor of her own apartment on Friday night, hours after she attended a party to celebrate her birthday that evening. “She used to stay with her parents in a flat in Vidyadhar Nagar area and was preparing for NEET at a local coaching centre. The incident took place at around 3 am,” he said.
“Later, the neighbours informed the police after recovering her in a critical state on Saturday morning. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead,” he added.
He added that the teen took her first NEET attempt in May this year but failed to qualify.
The incident comes weeks after a 16-year-old student, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to undergraduate engineering courses, died by suicide in the Kota district of Rajasthan on July 4, making it the 13th such incident in the coaching hub this year. 27 cases across dist last year
Last year, 27 students preparing for various competitive examinations died by suicide in the district.
On September 28 last year, the state government announced a series of measures to prevent suicides among students, such as a mandatory screening test, the alphabetical sorting of students into sections instead of a ranking-based one.
