DEHRADUN: Pauri Garhwal senior superintendent of police (SSP) Lokeshwar Singh on Wednesday ordered a probe after a 25-year-old woman filed a complaint against a police subinspector (SI) for molesting and seeking sexual favours from her on the pretext of investigating a complaint she lodged last year.

Pauri Garhwal SSP Lokeshwar Singh said, “As per the woman’s complaint, on one occasion the SI called her in a hotel room and asked her father and the lawyer to stay outside. There the SI allegedly molested her. The woman has also accused the SI of calling her at his house on another occasion on the pretext of investigating the case.”

The SSP added, “We have received the complaint in which the woman claimed that the SI, in charge of the local police outpost, molested her. She gave the complaint 4-5 days ago. We have been trying to contact her but failed. We called her family to register their statements on Wednesday night. Based on the facts we will take the required action.”

Singh informed that in July last year, the woman filed a complaint against her live-in partner, alleging he reneged on a promise to marry her. It was informally resolved between them without an FIR being filed, he added.

The SSP stated that the woman has now accused a subinspector (SI), who was investigating her previous complaint, of assaulting her. The SI, in turn, alleges that the accusation is part of a conspiracy against him. The SSP said both accusations will be thoroughly investigated, and FIRs will be registered based on evidence.

Regarding the woman’s allegations, the SSP mentioned that she did not specify dates but claimed the SI called her to a hotel room where he allegedly molested her while her father and lawyer were kept outside.

Additionally, she accused the SI of summoning her to his house under the guise of case investigation on another occasion.

The investigation has been assigned to circle officer (Sadar) Anuj Kumar, who stated that they will gather statements from the woman, her family, and review all available evidence, including details from the previous case involving the SI.

“I will submit my report to the SSP. Further action will be taken based on that,” Kumar said.
