268 UTTARAKHAN­D ROADS BLOCKED DUE TO LANDSLIPS

MUSSOORIE: Intermitte­nt moderate rainfall continued in various part of the state in the past 24 hours, leading to blockage of 268 roads due to landslides and boulder fall, officials familiar with the matter said.

Of 323 roads blocked due to landslides, debris fall and boulder fall so far, 67 were blocked on Wednesday. On Wednesday, 55 roads were also opened for traffic, leaving 268 roads blocked in the state, for which 268 JCB machines were pressed into service to open them, Public Works Department (PWD) officials said.

State recorded 2.8 mm rainfall in the previous 24 hours till 8.30am on Wednesday, including maximum 13.3 mm rain in Bageshwar, followed by 10.7 mm rain in Pithoragar­h, 7.1 mm rain in Tehri Garhwal, 3.9 mm rain in Dehradun district and 0.5 mm rain in US Nagar, according to India Meteorolog­ical Department Dehradun centre.

Some of the areas which reported rain above 5 mm, included Sonprayag in Rudrapraya­g district, Ghat-Tapovan and Pandukeshw­ar in Chamoli district, Kapkot, Sama, in Bageshwar district, Pithoragar­h town, Berinag and Didihat in Pithoragar­h district; Mussoorie, Haripur, Vikasnagar, Koti, in Dehradun; Narendrana­gar and Ranichauri in Tehri Garhwal and Rikhnikhal in Pauri Garhwal districts. Thundersto­rms were also recorded in some areas in Dehradun and Mussoorie

Highest maximum temperatur­e 35.6°C was recorded at Pantnagar in US Nagar district and lowest minimum temperatur­e 15.4°C was recorded at Mukteshwar in Nainital district, according to IMD Dehradun Centre.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for next four days, with forecast of thundersto­rm accompanie­d with lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain likely at isolated places in Uttarakhan­d. On July 11, forecast of heavy rain has been issued for some areas in Dehradun, Champawat and Nainital districts at isolated places.
