CASH, LIQUOR, DRUGS WORTH ₹35 CRORE CONFISCATED IN HARYANA
CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief secretary TVSN Prasad on Friday said that the enforcement agencies have reported a seizures of cash and drugs amounting to over ₹35 crore in the state ever since the election code of conduct came into force in mid March.
According to the election seizure management system’s progress report, the seizures include cash worth about ₹6 crore, 3.67 lakh litre liquor valued at ₹12.48 crore and 6,016 kilograms of drugs/narcotics valued at ₹12.11 crore. Additionally precious metals, freebies and other items account for ₹1.73 crore and ₹2.52 crore respectively, according to a statement.
DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, principal secretary and chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Agarwal, principal secretary (excise and taxation) Devendra Kalyan, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
School, college grounds cannot be used for election rallies
Meanwhile, Haryana CEO Anurag Agarwal said that Election Commission (EC) will not give permission to political parties and candidates contesting elections to use playgrounds of schools and colleges for election rallies. In a statement, the CEO clarified that except Haryana and Punjab, in other states and union territories, playgrounds can be used with the permission of the school management.
The Punjab and Haryana high court has imposed ban on allowing political rallies in school and college playgrounds, he said.
Agarwal said that during the election campaign, no temple, mosque, church, gurudwara or other religious place can be used for election campaign.
He said that photographs of defence personnel or programmes of defence personnel will not be used in advertisements during the election campaign.
