CASH, LIQUOR, DRUGS WORTH ₹35 CRORE CONFISCATE­D IN HARYANA

CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief secretary TVSN Prasad on Friday said that the enforcemen­t agencies have reported a seizures of cash and drugs amounting to over ₹35 crore in the state ever since the election code of conduct came into force in mid March.

According to the election seizure management system’s progress report, the seizures include cash worth about ₹6 crore, 3.67 lakh litre liquor valued at ₹12.48 crore and 6,016 kilograms of drugs/narcotics valued at ₹12.11 crore. Additional­ly precious metals, freebies and other items account for ₹1.73 crore and ₹2.52 crore respective­ly, according to a statement.

DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, principal secretary and chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Agarwal, principal secretary (excise and taxation) Devendra Kalyan, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

School, college grounds cannot be used for election rallies

Meanwhile, Haryana CEO Anurag Agarwal said that Election Commission (EC) will not give permission to political parties and candidates contesting elections to use playground­s of schools and colleges for election rallies. In a statement, the CEO clarified that except Haryana and Punjab, in other states and union territorie­s, playground­s can be used with the permission of the school management.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has imposed ban on allowing political rallies in school and college playground­s, he said.

Agarwal said that during the election campaign, no temple, mosque, church, gurudwara or other religious place can be used for election campaign.

He said that photograph­s of defence personnel or programmes of defence personnel will not be used in advertisem­ents during the election campaign.
