SHANGRI-LA SINGAPORE

-

A haven for discerning travelers for more than five decades, the 792-room Shangri-la Singapore is tucked within six hectares of leafy tropical gardens on the fringes of Orchard Road. And while some of the city’s glitziest malls are just minutes away on foot, guests will feel like they’re in a secluded, utterly serene world.

The Shangri-la brand’s flagship property comprises three towers, each with its own distinctive style. The original Tower Wing exudes a contemporary design with a subtle Asian touch, complemented by the lobby’s impressive art installation of cascading metallic leaves by Japanese artist Hirotoshi Sawada. The Garden Wing, with its open-air atrium, provides a resort-like oasis, while the Valley Wing offers classic elegance. Interspersed between the buildings are manicured gardens that harbor more than 110 varieties of ornamental trees, aquatic plants, tropical flowers, and shady fruit trees.

Dining options are equally diverse, with 11 dining concepts serving a variety of cuisines from around the world. Highlights include award-winning Shang Palace, a temple to Cantonese fine dining with signature dishes such as sautéed boneless chicken wings skewered with abalone and mushroom, steamed lobster and bird’s nest with crab coral sauce, and oven-baked cod fillet with egg white and dried scallops. There’s also The Line, with its extensive buffet selection; Origin Grill, where the menu favors sustainably sourced seafood and artisanal meats; and Origin Bar, whose decor celebrates the glamour of train travel alongside handcrafted cocktails inspired by far-fetched ideas and concepts.

Updated with Zeninspired interiors, accommodations in the Tower Wing include five Themed Family Suites and executive Horizon Club rooms, while those in the Garden Wing come with balconies that overlook lush greenery or the hotel’s expansive swimming pool—book one of the three Premier Balcony Suites for a wraparound terrace outfitted with a whirlpool bath, barbecue grill, and sun loungers. Rooms in the ultra-exclusive Valley Wing are even more lavish, and entitle guests to extra benefits like afternoon tea, champagne, and evening canapés.

Grown-ups will appreciate the soothing pleasures of Chi, The Spa, where treatments range from Turkish body scrubs to aromatherapy massages. But Shangrila Singapore also sets itself apart with its range of familyfriendly experiences. buds by Shangri-la is an interactive play area that spans more than 1,800 square meters on the first floor of the Tower Wing. Themed activity spaces encourage fun while learning: Muddy is for budding artists who like to make an artistic statement; Stage is a music studio for young performers; and Bake is a fully equipped cooking classroom for children and parents. A specially designed Toddler Zone features swings and slides, a piano floor, a ball pit, and a vintage kiddie ride, while Splash is an outdoor pool area with six unique water play areas and specially designed aquatic amenities for the whole family. Whatever your age, this gorgeous hotel is sure to impress.
