Bellmere Winds team headed to RBC PGA Scramble National Final
Largest grassroots amateur golf program in Canada
A team from Bellmere Winds Golf Resort has punched its ticket to the RBC PGA Scramble National Final at Cabot Links Golf Course in Nova Scotia.
Michael Nieukirk and Jordan Cleveland of Peterborough, Jordan Fountain and Jeremy Tracey of Ennismore and Bellmere Winds Golf Resort PGA Pro Chris Medford won the Ontario Northeast RBC PGA Scramble Final on Aug. 22 hosted at The Rock Golf Club in Muskoka.
They finished ahead of 19 teams to earn a trip to the national final in Inverness, N.S., in early October.
“It was quite the roller-coaster of a round, lots of highs and lows, lots of putts made from our pro,” said Nieukirk, in an RBC PGA Scramble news release.
“On the third hole, we had a chip in and then a 70-foot birdie putt on the par 3. Near the end, pro came up clutch with a 50-foot eagle putt,” he added.
They qualified for the 18-hole RBC PGA Scramble regional tournament through winning the local qualifier event also held at Saugeen Golf Club earlier this summer.
The team-focused scramble format considers the handicap of each golfer when calculating their final score, allowing anyone who has a registered Golf Canada handicap the chance to participate and win.
“The local qualifier at Bellmere was great, and as a whole the scramble is amazing being able to get to compete like this all together,” said Nieukirk.
“Chris has been to Cabot before and was telling us about it. We never thought we’d have the opportunity but here we are.”
Now in its ninth year, the RBC PGA Scramble is the largest grassroots amateur golf program in Canada. In 2024, participants competed across 180 local qualifiers from coast-to-coast.
