Police continue to investigate death of Brenda Stinson
Forty years ago the lifeless body of Brenda Stinson, 23, was found on an isolated dirt road south of Lakefield.
Stinson, was found in a ditch on Sawers Creek Road, south of Lakefield on May 12, 1984. The mother of one had last been seen earlier that day at the Trent Inn in Peterborough at 12:15 a.m.
The case remains unsolved much to the chagrin of local resident and retired OPP senior constable Jim Fairfield.
Officials believe that someone has information that could solve the case and bring closure to the family. Anyone with information is asked to contact the crime unit at the OPP’s Peterborough detachment at 705 742-0401.
Cruise Nights at the Barn
Fowlers Corners Lions Club Cruise Nights at the Barn, at 124 Lindsay
Rd., have returned and will run Thursdays until Sept. 12, 4 p.m. to dusk.
The event will include classic cars, live bands, refreshments, prizes and 50/50 draws. No admission but donations will be gratefully accepted. Proceeds from these events will be used to support various local charities and causes.
Blooms Garden Club
Omemee Blooms Garden Club’s monthly meeting will be held Monday at the Legion. Social time, 6:30 p.m. with meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
David Ahmad will speak on “How to Plan a Successful Garden.”
Bottle drive
Omemee Lions Club will hold a drive-thru bottle drive May 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the municipal parking lot beside the Omemee Fire Hall.
Bottles and returnable cans will be accepted with funds going to support Dog Guides and community causes.
Walk for Dog Guides
Omemee Walk for Dog Guides will be held May 26. Registration begins 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Walk begins at 11 a.m. from Omemee Curling Centre.
The walk is about 3.5 km long. You can sponsor a walker or walk yourself. You can bring your dog or walk solo. All dogs must be on a leash and aggressive dogs must be muzzled.

Omemee Legion
There are many activities upcoming at the legion. There will be a steak dinner May 25, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with music by Parker Blvd House Band; $25 per person in advance by calling the legion. There will be tickets at the door with burgers, hot dogs and fries available for purchase.
Karaoke nights return to the patio May 31, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with Karaoke DJ Kelroy Classics. Karaoke nights will happen two Saturdays every month so come and enjoy the fun.
The Acreman Mixed Dart Tournament will be held June 22. Registrations begins at 9 a.m. and play at 10 a.m. $20 per person with teams made up of two men and two women. You must preregister by June 15 as there is a 16-team limit. For information call Karen at 705-7403620. You do not have to be a legion member to participate.
The Wave will perform June 15, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the patio, weather permitting. Tickets are $20 per person and available in person at the legion or by calling 705-799-5095.
A vintage sale will be held at the Legion June 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come out and see all the treasures available.
Ducktona Race
The Omemee Lions’ Club Ducktona Race is returning for another year. Tickets are still only $5 each and available from Lions’ members, at Coronation Hall during regular hours or by emailing omemeelionsclub@gmail.com e-transfer funds to omemeelionsclubgeneral@gmail.com
Funds raised will go into the Omemee Lions Club Legacy Fund for current and future community projects. The draw will be held July 1 at the Canada Day activities.
