Festival Route 11’s fourth edition set for July 25-28

-

P.E.I.’S only bilingual folk festival is back with another lineup of celebrated folk musicians, favourite Island meals, and large-scale art installations, July 25-28.

The Fédération culturelle de l’île-du-prince-édouard brings back festival favourites, along with a few new additions, for the event’s fourth edition at Union Corner Provincial Park.

Audiences can look forward to the festival’s signature multi-sensory experience: music, culinary arts and visual arts.

The festival’s headliners in the big tent this year are P.E.I.’S 6 Hearts on July 26, Cajun singer-songwriter (and social media darling) Jourdan Thibodeaux et les Rôdailleurs on July 27 and Mi’kmaq musician Morgan Toney, who was recently nominated for a Juno and winner at the ECMAS, on July 28.

Rounding out the festival lineup are local groups Inn Echo and Maukin, a new band which includes the former members of Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, as well as Louisiana’s Dustin Dale Gaspard and Montreal bluegrass duo Veranda.

On July 25, a Here We Go! Barndance is at Evermoore Brewery, this year with an extra treat: a new signature beer.

Created by Alex Clarke and the Evermoore team, the Route 11 Pale Ale will launch on June 22, celebrating route 11 and all things Prince County.

“Route 11 is a great stretch of the Island that I actually grew up on,” says Clarke, who has partnered with the festival since its inaugural season in 2021.

“Developing a beer for the occasion is exciting, but also feels like another arm of the artistic side of this festival.”

Union Corner Provincial Park will once again become an artistic landscape, curated by artists Kelly Caseley and Patrick Brunet. These sights complement the festival’s music and the locally-inspired meals prepared every night by local chefs Clarke and Robert Pendergast.

Once again, workshops led by the festival’s world-class musicians at fiddle camp.

This year’s free-admission Family Day on July 27 will be even more exciting with the addition of Shane Pendergast’s Jack Pine Folk Club under the small tent, a series which celebrates Island folk music and poetry, alongside a full day of games and family-friendly programming.

On July 28, a trad celebration – the Fiddle Brunch – will regale audiences with music and dancing.
