Concerts

• Nick Doneff is in the lounge of Harmony House, Hunter River, April 25, 6:30 p.m.

• Island Jazz Thursdays at Baba’s Lounge in Charlottet­own features Trio from Mars on April 25, performing all original music. Trio From Mars is made up of members from the Ecma-nominated P.E.I. jazz-hop group, Mars Hill. The lineup is Chris Coupland (electric piano, synthesize­rs), Dean Dunsford (electric bass) and Davy Weale (drums, percussion), with Devin Krauskopf (guitar). There are two sets with the first starting at 8 p.m. Donations are at the door with a $5 minimum.

• Lawrence Maxwell and a six-piece band will take the stage at Kings Playhouse for a Merle Haggard tribute on April 26 at 7:30 p.m.

• The Charlottet­own Jazz Ensemble, featuring 18 of P.E.I.’S best jazz musicians, will bring big band jazz to UPEI’S Steel Recital Hall on April 26, 7:30 p.m., in a concert presented by the UPEI Music Department. Admission is adults, $15, students, $10 – cash only at the door.

• St. Mark's Presbyteri­an Church is hosting two old-fashioned variety shows on April 26-27, 7 p.m. Each night will feature Kendall Docherty, Keila Glyden, Frank Whitty, Luka Hall and a variety of other performers, with a special appearance by Sarah. The show will be directed by Barb Perry. All funds raised will go towards repaving the church parking lot. Tickets are $15. Practices

• The Queens County Fiddlers practise approximat­ely every second Thursday at the BIS Hall on North River Road in Charlottet­own. There’s a slow jam at 6:30 p.m. and a practice at 7:30 p.m. The group’s next practice is May 2. All are welcome – players and listeners.

• Carrying on the tradition of the Miscouche band, musicians and interested parties are meeting Wednesdays at Summerside Intermedia­te School (247 Central St., Summerside), 6:30 p.m. in the band room (look for signs). Art galleries/exhibits

• As part of the Sixty Days of Fame series at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre in Summerside, artist Shelia Forsyth presents a solo exhibit, Here and There: A Journey in Colour, that explores subjects and colours of beautiful places and spaces, from across P.E.I. and around the world, which have inspired her. • Eptek Art & Culture Centre is showing a Retrospect­ive of the Folk Art of Kerras Jeffery (19662017), one of the leading folk artists of his generation in eastern Canada. Born in P.E.I., he began his working career as a labourer, but gradually moved into folk art. He operated Back Road Folk Art in Alma, P.E.I., for 20 years. His creations were made from repurposed materials, and his playful sculptures continue to be collected across Canada and internatio­nally. The exhibit is on display until May 17 in the main gallery. The lobby exhibit for April is Artist’s Choice, a collection of work by members of the Kensington Artist Co-operative. Also, enjoy Eptek’s Scavenger Hunts.
