Sherbrooke Diocese marks 150 years of history with celebration at Beauvoir Sanctuary
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Diocese of Sherbrooke will commemorate its 150th anniversary with a major event at the Beauvoir Sanctuary. This milestone celebration, deeply rooted in regional heritage, offers a full day of cultural and family-friendly activities, promising something for visitors of all ages, according to a recent release.
Starting at 9 a.m., attendees can immerse themselves in the diocese’s history through presentations by Abbé Gilles Baril, who will highlight key moments in the diocese’s journey. Visitors can explore the Maurice Zundel
Meditative Trail and the Evangelical Walk, where ongoing activities will showcase the hidden treasures of this sacred site.
Families can visit booths featuring local artisans and partners of the diocese, take part in a treasure hunt hosted by the Famille Marie-jeunesse, and enjoy a variety of entertainment options, including inflatable games and large-scale skill games. A food truck will also be on-site to satisfy hungry guests.
The cultural aspect of the day will shine through musical performances, including a string trio and the Family Choir, which will accompany the 150th anniversary Mass at 4 p.m. The Mass, celebrated outdoors by Archbishop Luc Cyr, will be the highlight of this gathering, serving as both a celebration of the diocese’s history and a community-building event that bridges generations.
With free admission and a wideranging program of enriching activities, this day is set to leave a lasting impression on the collective memory. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to fully enjoy the celebration, which blends tradition, culture, and community in an exceptional natural setting. This event is a must for history, heritage, and culture enthusiasts.
