Podcaster bashes Trudeau again
Joe Rogan has yet again waded into Canadian politics on his podcast, throwing his support behind Pierre Poilievre and criticizing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Speaking on his show on Saturday, the American commentator called Poilievre “common sense” after being taught how to pronounce the Conservative leader’s last name from guest and comedy veteran Tom Green.
“That guy makes so much more sense. He’s so common sense just calling out all the nonsense that’s been done under this administration. Just so sad to watch,” he said.
Later in the interview, Rogan said Canada should want to opt for a change during the next federal election, which is slated for October 2025.
“If (Trudeau) gets elected again, you guys are gluttons for punishment,” he said.
Rogan also criticized Canada’s handgun restrictions introduced in December, which curbed the sale and transfer of handguns.
“I don’t necessarily feel that anybody should tell me that I can’t have a handgun,” Rogan said. “Especially not the government that’s already done some really shady s--- like what they did with the truck drivers,” he added.
Green said he agreed with Rogan that “Trudeau probably did overstep with some of his reaction to that, with some of the things he said specifically.”
“But there was also this element of not only was the city shut down, there’s people that live downtown.”
“There’s babies sleeping. It’s ... like a neighbourhood.” he said, comparing the Freedom Convoy to Jan. 6 protests, in which Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
Rogan pushed back, calling the trucker convoy a “legitimate protest” and calling COVID vaccines “experimental medication.” In early 2023, Rogan said it was “totalitarian” to crack down on protesters in Ottawa, whom he described as “working-class people ... being forced to do (a) medical procedure in order to keep their job.”
Rogan has been criticized for promoting vaccine misconceptions on his podcast and saying only “vulnerable” people need to be vaccinated for COVID.
Green then noted seeing trucks with flags that say “F-Trudeau” in places across Canada.
“Enough people (were) down with it that he got elected, (but) he might not get elected the next time,” he said.
“If he gets elected again. You guys are gluttons for punishment,” Rogan replied.
Rogan has criticized Trudeau repeatedly on his podcast for years.
