Orioles cut loose struggling Kimbrel

Craig Kimbrel's time with the Baltimore Orioles could be coming to an end after the struggling team designated its former closer for assignment Wednesday following the latest in a series of rough outings. Kimbrel gave up six runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning of relief in Baltimore's 10-0 home loss to San Francisco on Tuesday. Kimbrel has a 13.94 ERA in his last 11 appearance­s.

Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, former defensive players of the year Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs, and post-season kicking hero Adam Vinatieri are among the firsttime nominees for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ontario sports minister Neil Lumsden announced Wednesday he'll be donating his brain to the Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada to assist with research on brain injuries. Lumsden, 71, a former CFL star, won a Vanier Cup with the University of Ottawa in 1975. He went on to play 10 CFL seasons in Toronto, Hamilton and Edmonton.

The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Victor Hedman as captain on Wednesday, making the big defenceman the successor to Steven Stamkos. Hedman is going into his 16th season with Tampa Bay. Stamkos left to join Nashville in free agency this summer.
